I am a licensed professional counselor practicing in Dallas since 2011. I specialize in individual adolescent and adult psychotherapy and provide therapeutic treatment for managing and overcoming anxiety, the aftereffects of trauma and abuse (including PTSD, compulsive behavior, sexual issues, shame, codependence and others), family of origin issues, relationship issues, low self-worth, anxiety and other unwanted behaviors and beliefs impacting everyday life. I integrate trauma informed practices and various theoretical models adjusted to best fit each client’s individual needs and help him or her reach his or her goals. In my work, I integrate mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health and believe issues are most successfully addressed when considered in the context of life as a whole.
Education and Training
I graduated from Wake Forest University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and earned a Master of Arts in counseling in 2011 from Dallas Theological Seminary. I interned in counseling at The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center from 2010-2011 where I began specialized training in trauma-focused care for survivors of sexual abuse. In 2012 I interned at The Phoenix House Judicial Treatment Center where I counseled incarcerated men serving felony offenses who had been diagnosed with substance dependence, many of whom also had identified traumatic experiences needing focused trauma informed treatment.
I opened my private practice at the end of 2012 at which time I simultaneously joined the staff at Dallas Theological Seminary where I counseled students pursuing their Master of Arts in counseling. While maintaining a private practice I began working with New Friends New Life where I provided abuse and trafficking prevention and intervention groups to high risk and sex trafficked teenage girls in the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Centers. From 2012-2016 I managed the High Risk and Trafficked Teen Program and subsequently the Women’s Counseling Program at New Friends New Life where I provided trauma informed mental health care to formerly trafficked teenage girls and sexually exploited women. During this time I completed the Basic Training Program for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as training for using EMDR with attachment based disorders. I completed extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) which, along with EMDR, is an evidence based treatment approach proven to be effective for treating complex mental health and emotional issues as well traumatic experiences and trauma reactions.
From 2013-2016 I completed additional graduate level training in Sex Therapy through the Institute for Sexual Wholeness (ISW) in partnership with Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, Georgia with specific focus on human sexuality, sexual dysfunction, medical issues, trauma and abuse, and other areas of practice in sex therapy. In partnership with ISW I completed further training through the Christian Association of Sexual Educators and am certified to facilitate group workshops with singles and couples on a variety of topics to open dialogue and promote restoration of healthy sexuality within the Christian community.
In my free time I love to travel, try out new restaurants, stay active and create projects to keep myself busy around the house. I could organize closets for days and love every moment of it. I grew up in Dallas but have lived all across the country and abroad, which has informed my awareness of both the uniqueness of cultures but also the similarities of the basic needs and struggles that we all face as humans. Thanks for reading!
